PhD position in Astrophysics: Stellar Activity and Magnetism

The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Uppsala University, Sweden invites applications for a graduate student position in Astrophysics. The successful applicant will work with Oleg Kochukhov on problems connected to the stellar magnetism and activity, in particular spectropolarimetric observations of active stars and investigations of stellar magnetic field topologies. Applicants with backgrounds and interests in stellar physics are particularly encouraged to apply. The position is financed through a research grant from the Swedish Research Council.

To be eligible for a PhD position you should have a basic university degree in physics, astronomy or astrophysics (at least BSc) and fulfil the entry requirements for the PhD programme (see http://www.astro.uu.se/forskarutb). The final appointment will be made after interviews with a few top candidates. The university is striving for a more even gender balance in its research and teaching staff and women are especially encouraged to apply for this position. Employment as a PhD student is for 4 years. The successful applicant should take up the position not later than September 2011.
