Project:
Experimental treatments for Parkinson's disease with a focus on glutamate mGluR4 receptor.
The project intends to lead to a PhD degree.

Job assignments
The project aims at evaluating novel, selective positive allosteric modulators (PAM) of the glutamate receptor, mGluR4, as a potential symptomatic and neuroprotective treatment for PD using rodents with 6–OHDA lesions as an experimental model. To assess symptomatic efficacy and antidyskinetic potential, PAM–mGluR4 will be administered together with L–DOPA To assess neuroprotective potential, the PAM–mGluR4 compounds will be administered alone starting on the same day as the 6–OHDA surgery.
Eligibility/Entry Requirements
Basic entry requirements for PhD studies are: a degree at advanced level, courses to an extent of at least 240 credits, of which at least 60 at advanced level, or corresponding proficiencies aquired in Sweden or elsewhere.

Special requirements for this position: Master degree in Biomedicine.

Useful qualifications are:
1)Experience in rodent behavior testing with particular regard to ratings of dyskinesia.
2)Experience in histological work on the brain.
3)Excellent previous study performance.
4)Motivation and ambition to carry out scientific research of the highest international standards.
Basis of Assessment
Regulations for employment as a postgraduate student can be found in the Swedish Statute Book (SFS 1998:80). Only those admitted to postgraduate studies can be appointed to such a position. When appointing applicants to such a position, first and foremost their ability to benefit from postgraduate studies must be taken into consideration. In addition to pursuing postgraduate studies, the doctoral student may also perform other duties, including research, teaching and administration, according to the specific regulations.

The special education assistance (15 500 SEK/month before taxes) will last fulltime maximum 24 months. After the admission the research student should be employed as a doctoral student at the latest when it remains two years education until they reach the PhD according to the individual study plan.

After admission to the PhD program, the applicant will be allowed to be involved in administrative activities at the host institution. The scope, amount and timing of these activities will be decided upon in agreement with the supervisors.
