Ten doctoral student positions at the Department of Law, Uppsala University, Sweden

An employed doctoral student shall, foremost, be devoted to his or her own postgraduate research. Other duties at the faculty which relate to teaching and administrative work may be included within the scope of the employment (to a maximum of 20%).

A requirement for employment as doctoral student is that the applicant must be admitted to postgraduate studies. To this extent, the applicant's ability to successfully complete the doctoral studies will be decisive. The regulations governing the employment of doctoral students may be found in Chapter 5, Sections 1-7 of the Higher Education Ordinance.

All applications must be in writing and should include a description of the doctoral project. The description, of approximately 10 pages, should include the research questions that will be studied in the proposed project, how the proposed project relate to the field of law studied and to research already undertaken in this field, how the applicant reflects upon issues relating to methods and material, and finally the applicant should comment on the proposed project's contribution and added value to the legal science. A time schedule for the entire period of study should be included in the description. The application should also contain a substantial piece of written work e.g. undergraduate degree final essay (or similar), earlier works in legal science undertaken by the applicant (books, articles, etc.), copies of degrees obtained and other relevant documents (letters of recommendations and certificates of relevant employments), a signed curriculum vitae, and a letter from a professor or an associate professor at the Faculty of Law, Uppsala University, expressing her/his will to act as a supervisor.

ll documents attached to the application should be translated into English or Swedish.

Local guidelines are established for setting the salary.

A person may be employed as a doctoral student for a maximum of eight years, but no longer than the equivalent of four years of full-time postgraduate research.

Applicants must have an adequate knowledge of Swedish or English. Proficiency in English must be documented. As a benchmark, the applicant should be above 7 for IELTS and at least 80, of which 22 for reading comprehension and 24 for literacy, for TOEFL.
